Grantbuilder Toolkit for the Arts: Description
All five sessions will be scheduled from Jan 12th thru March 31st
The full program is designed as a five-part series. Each of the five sessions is scheduled for 3-4 hours. Some sessions will be conducted in-person and some will be scheduled as live, online workshops. Session 1 will include an overview of the requirements and expectations for individuals to enroll to complete the full series. Sessions 2-5 include instruction and learning activities that culminate with the preparation of up to three grant or sponsorship proposals. A brief description of each session is provided below:
Session 1: “Grants Available for Artists” (general overview, open to all artists). Sat, 1/12/19
Introduction to grants available to artists, with a focus on government-funded grants (national, state, regional and local). This will include an overview of current and upcoming grant opportunities for individual artists, arts organizations and other nonprofits that provide arts programming.
Session 2: “Creating, Collaborating and Presenting”
(Feb 2019, Date to be announced at Session 1)
Hands-on” workshop for artists to develop a 12-month plan to pursue grant funding opportunities. This session will instruct them to how and where to pursue resources to support: the creative development of artistic works, initiate and build collaborative partnerships with schools, community organizations and businesses, and pursuing and securing opportunities to present* their works (*performances, exhibits and/or production of literary multimedia works). During this session, artists will identify at least one funding source that they will pursue. Each participant will prepare the initial outline and checklist of everything needed to complete the selected grant application.
Session 3: “Preparing the Grant Application”
(Feb 2019, Date to be announced at Session 1)
We will provide technical assistance and mentoring to help artists complete and submit an initial grant application to an appropriate funder. This will include guidance on how to collaborate with other artists and/or organizations.
Session 4: “Developing Your Project Budget”
(Feb 2019, Date to be announced at Session 1)
Participants will learn how to develop budgets for specific artistic projects, as well as how to develop an annual budget to support the 12-month plan. This session will also introduce practical options for record keeping and accounting needed to prepare interim and final reports to funders; artists will also need this information to prepare and report for state and federal tax purposes.
Session 5: “Submitting the Grant and Next Steps”
(Feb 2019, Date to be announced at Session 1)
