Grantbuilder: Toolkit for the Arts

If you attended the Saturday, 1/12/19 "Grantbuilder for the Arts" workshop in Inglewood, CA, you are eligible to participate in the full series.  Please follow the instructions below to complete the three-step process:   Step1: Online Registration Form , Step 2: Download Program Design Worksheet and Step 3: Complete at least one Program Design Worksheet for your organization/project and email it to "LaQ@TheGrantbuilder.com" by 6pm (PST) Thursday 1/17/19.  he following form, then click the orange button to download a copy of the Program Design Worksheet.  Please email the completed form back by 6:00pm (PST) this Thursday, 1/17/19 to: LaQ@TheGrantbuilder.com.  After I receive the registration forms, I will be able to determine the days/times that work for the majority.  On Friday, I will send an email with the schedule and details for the upcoming online and in-person workshops.

    Step 1:  Complete the following registration form

    Pre-requisite:  Attendance at Saturday's, Jan 12th, 2019 workshop in Inglewood. ​ 
    Please download, complete and email a copy of at least one  completed Program Design Worksheet no later than 6:00pm (PST) this Wednesday, 1/15/19.  I will be sending you an email to coordinate and announce the schedule that works for the majority of participants for Session #2.   Note:  If you did not attend the full 3-hour session, your registration form will be deleted (this does not apply to individuals who communicated with me that they had to leave early).

Step 2:  Download the Program Design Worksheet

Click the orange button below to download a copy of the form (includes two examples).  Use the form as a guide to prepare a draft of at least one program design for your organization or specific arts project.  If you have more than one project, you can prepare a program design for each one.  ​Note: You can write onto the form and scan a copy , or you can use MS Word to prepare your program design(s).

Grantbuilder Toolkit for the Arts: Description
All five sessions will be scheduled from Jan 12th thru March 31st

The full program is designed as a five-part series.  Each of the five sessions is scheduled for 3-4 hours.   Some sessions will be conducted in-person and some will be scheduled as live, online workshops.  Session 1 will include an overview of the requirements and expectations for individuals to enroll to complete the full series.  Sessions 2-5 include instruction and learning activities that culminate with the preparation of up to three grant or sponsorship proposals.  A brief description of each session is provided below:

​Session 1:  “Grants Available for Artists”
  (general overview, open to all artists).  Sat, 1/12/19
Introduction to grants available to artists, with a focus on government-funded grants (national, state, regional and local).  This will include an overview of current and upcoming grant opportunities for individual artists, arts organizations and other nonprofits that provide arts programming.


Session 2:  “Creating, Collaborating and Presenting”
(Feb 2019,  Date to be announced at Session 1)

Hands-on” workshop for artists to develop a 12-month plan to pursue grant funding opportunities.  This session will instruct them to how and where to pursue resources to support:  the creative development of artistic works, initiate and build collaborative partnerships with schools, community organizations and businesses, and pursuing and securing opportunities to present* their works (*performances, exhibits and/or production of literary multimedia works).  During this session, artists will identify at least one funding source that they will pursue.  Each participant will prepare the initial outline and checklist of everything needed to complete the selected grant application.
 
Session 3:   “Preparing the Grant Application”
(Feb 2019,  Date to be announced at Session 1)
We will provide technical assistance and mentoring to help artists complete and submit an initial grant application to an appropriate funder.  This will include guidance on how to collaborate with other artists and/or organizations.
 
Session 4:  “Developing Your Project Budget”

(Feb 2019,  Date to be announced at Session 1)
Participants will learn how to develop budgets for specific artistic projects, as well as how to develop an annual budget to support the 12-month plan.  This session will also introduce practical options for record keeping and accounting needed to prepare interim and final reports to funders; artists will also need this information to prepare and report for state and federal tax purposes.
 
Session 5:  “Submitting the Grant and Next Steps”

(Feb 2019,  Date to be announced at Session 1)
Each participant will submit a completed grant application.  This session will include final steps to prepare a master grant writing template that will be used to apply for future grants.
